Grade 12’s were given an insight into the world of work in the 21st century at the careers expo at the Feathermarket Centre. We first watched a very interesting DVD on careers of the future, sponsored by the Coega Development Corporation. Huge changes are happening as the Fourth Industrial Revolution spreads over the world. Most jobs of the future have not been invented yet. Young people must develop skills that will make them flexible, such as being able to communicate, co-operate and think critically. Creativity, character and citizenship will be required.
The Nelson Mandela University and the Nelson Mandela Metro had many interesting stalls where learners could find out about courses and career paths. The Fire and Emergency Services need young, fit recruits and offer a starting salary more than a teacher’s pay! National departments, local industry, businesses and many colleges of all sorts had exhibitions, demonstrations, pamphlets, posters and freebies for the Gr12’s, our future workers, tax-payers and leaders!
